The Story Behind the Bottle
A light gold hue is a giveaway for oak and ripeness in this exotically fruity white. Our RedHeads winemaker, Alex, often visits Robin Day’s beautiful vineyards in the cooler, elevated area of Mount Crawford, in the south of the Barossa. At a slightly higher altitude, the grapes take longer to ripen – some of the last to be harvested – but the flavour is all the more pronounced for that. Portions of Marsanne and Roussanne – both top Rhône varieties – come from warm Lyndoch for their creamy peach and spice. Others are from cooler Clare Valley – these lend lemony freshness. This is a richly textured white, fuller and rounder thanks to fermentation and six months ageing in oak, with regular stirring of the lees. Great for creamy sauced chicken.
