The Story Behind the Bottle
Portugal boasts a superb range of unique, quality wines that punch well above their weight for value, too. This rich red is one of them; from a family-run property near Lisbon, close to the Atlantic coast. Founded in the late 19th century, it produces some of Portugal’s finest bottles. In charge today are Maria João Santos Lima and José Luís Santos Lima Oliveira da Silva, granddaughter and great grandson of the founder, with Vasco Martins as winemaker. For this wine, he sources grapes from the prized vineyard next to the church, the slope of which ensures ideal ripeness. Rich, dark and supple, the wine blends native grapes Tinta Roriz and Castelão. With intense, spicy blackberry fruit, it's a tasty glass with roast meats or a rich stew.
