Don't expect the heft and boldness of Barossa Shiraz – Margan's Hunter Valley Shiraz wins through its elegance and layers of rich fruit complexity. This is a red in its infancy, that'll mature for another decade. Andrew is an ace winemaker. He started his career as a Flying Winemaker in Europe, then was in charge of Hunter’s oldest estate, Tyrrell’s, for 25 years. Since 1997 Andrew and his wife Lisa have run their own cellar, planting 100 hectares of vines in Broke Fordwich with classic Hunter varieties, as well as pioneering grapes such as Barbera, Arneis and Albariño. Their reputation today is immense. In 2021 Halliday Companion, the winery received the highest rating and 12 wines were scored 93 or above. Open early – superb with lamb.
