The Story Behind the Bottle
Even well versed Burgundy aficionados may have trouble placing the tiny appellation of Ladoix Serigny. As wine writer Hugh Johnson explained, “It’s villages like Ladoix that answer the question ‘Where can we buy good, authentic Burgundy for less than a fortune?’” Ladoix’s vineyards stretch up the hill to encompass both the great Corton and Corton Charlemagne. The Ravaut family have been tending vines there for six generations. It was Pierre’s grandfather who, in the 1920s, planted vines, selling the wine to local clientele. He won a Gold at Paris in 1936. Today Pierre and winemaker Vincent continue the legacy and are gaining a great reputation with wines like this. This is an early-harvest, barrique-aged Pinot. Decant first or cellar.
