Berton The Barbarian Shiraz Merlot 2017

South Eastern Australia

An irresistibly moreish red from one of our favourite Aussie producers, Bob Berton. It's brimful of Shiraz's juicy blackberry and smoky liquorice spice, with a small helping of Merlot to plump it out. Be warned! It's a hard wine to put down!

We love Shiraz, we love Merlot and we absolutely love Shiraz with a splash of Merlot. These two grapes work very well together. While Shiraz has long been the stalwart of the Aussie wine scene, Merlot is less widespread. A Bordeaux grape, it has now developed a broad Aussie accent. Full of vibrant plum flavour, it’s also exceptionally smooth. Our old mate Bob Berton is a self-confessed Barbarian but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The man is sheer genius – biker, cricketer, winemaker and a demon round a barbecue, where this bobby dazzler of a red is right at home. Ripe blackberry, blueberry and plum aromas meet brambly fruit, pepper and spice with smooth tannins. Crank up the barbie or slow roast some lamb. You’re in for a feast.

"Just beautiful. Delicious, full flavoured, yet subtle with a lingering plummy flavour. I adore it" Online Review
