Jokingly describing himself as a 'lazy winemaker', Romain Taupenot orchestrates the work of the small family domaine (13 hectares) with his sister Virginie. Using organic practices, the dedicated siblings produce 19 different wines across 17 appellations with many being Premier or Grand Cru. Now the 8th generation to take the stand, Romain remembers fondly helping his grandfather in the vineyard and cellar, then selling the wine along the route national to holidaymakers (how times change!). In truth Romain is anything but lazy. His priority is hard work in the vineyard, so only a light hand is required in the cellar. His village Morey from a tiny .4ha plot, part aged in new oak and from a great vintage, is taut and lithe with bright fruit.
