The Wine
This magnificent estate is a beacon of Saint-Emilion, both with regular 100-point scores, but also because it lies on the highest point of the appellation. It was initially called Château Mondot, but when Raymond Troplong took ownership in 1850, he added his own name. In the 1980s, the Vallette family made major improvements in quality. The SCOR group took control in 2017, with the aim of making it the very finest of the appellation and the 2022 release shows they are very much on track. Since 2006 it has been in the highest category – Premier Grand Cru Classé. The estate boasts 33 hectares of vines on clay, flint, limestone and silt soils. Merlot-dominated, it spends up to 18 months in as much as 80% new oak, yet still the wood is subtle.
"Very attractive aromas of plums and chocolate with hints of raspberry bush and hazelnut. So fresh"
