Andresen 40-year-old White Port (50cl) NV

White port is traditionally drunk in its youth, but Andresen realised that the highest quality white grapes were capable of so much more, given time and patience. This sublime 40 year old, unique among ports, is one of Portugal’s national treasures.

Andresen is one of the last family owned port houses, renowned for their ancient bottlings. A dedication to quality remains at their heart, while their openness to new ideas is what led to this entirely new category – aged white port. Following the success of the 20 year old, chief winemaker at the cellar and former head of tasting at the Port Wine Institute Alvaro Van Zeller decided to push the boundaries further and the 40 year old has received even greater acclaim. Throughout the 1970s, ’80s, ’90s and noughties, this exquisite wine lay undisturbed in vast old wooden vats in Vila Nova de Gaia. Now at last you can enjoy its mesmerising qualities – heady scents and complex, sweet and nutty flavours. Savour lightly chilled on its own.

"Unique to Andresen – 40 Year Old White Port. What a revelation. Magnificent long honeyed nutty fruit" Robin Langton
