A visit to the Andresen cellars is like stepping back in time to the 19th century. With all the barrels of ancient port quietly resting, you sense the respect for traditions which have been in place since the company began in 1845. As you walk through the cellars, you become aware of an enticing aroma which only time and passion can create. You start to appreciate how carefully these ports are looked after. Throughout the 1980s, ’90s, ’00s and beyond, this 40 year old Tawny lay undisturbed in old wooden vats. Now at last you can enjoy its gorgeous rich flavours and heady scents – sweet ripe berry and plum, nutty with Christmas cake and date. A port of this age is rare. Serve alongside a roaring fire with cheese, almonds and dried fruits.
