Germany has always produced some of the world’s finest Rieslings. In the last decade or so, German winemakers have perfected a dry style of wine too, producing whites with a gloriously zingy and appetising balance of lemon and apple fruit undercut by intense mineral poise. They are equally dazzling on their own or as a foil to food. This classic dry Riesling from historic Rheinhessen was made by Manuel Brixius at the award winning Niersteiner Weingenossenschaft, founded in 1930. Yields were small for the 2019 vintage, due to a very hot summer, but the quality could be the best this century. Elegant, crisp and wonderfully aromatic, this Riesling offers vibrant apple and lime fruit and real mineral finesse. Perfect solo or with fish.
