Le Grand Chai Bordeaux Blanc 2018
Bordeaux AOC

A rich, elegant white Bordeaux crafted by Le Chai winemaker and Sauvignon specialist Jean-Marc Sauboua. He took pristine Sauvignon Blanc and rich honeyed Sémillon and fermented both in oak to lend a creamy, toasty note to the intense, citrusy fruit.

The Story Behind the Bottle
Winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua has won Trophies and Golds galore for his Bordeaux whites and this 2018 shows him on top form. First sip reveals hallmark verve and zest, with added sophistication, body and a lingering toastiness from the Sémillon and the oak. It is, in fact, a collaboration between Le Chai and Château de Thieuley’s Courselle family (Francis Courselle was a pioneer in making modern Bordeaux whites and his daughters, incidentally also JMS’s nieces, are the owners and winemakers there). Using the pick of the crop in a very good vintage, they oak aged the wine for four months to lend subtle toasty spice to the broad peach and grassy edged fruit. A real modern classic – serve lightly chilled with seafood, grilled chicken or turbot.
