- Introducing Von Buhl
A Very Very Von Buhl Halloween
[September 2025]
Bone Dry in name, bone dry in nature, this Riesling from Germany’s Von Buhl is full of delicious laser-like stone fruit and saline freshness with a Halloween-suited label that makes it perfect for, dare we say, 30th October drinking.
The Reichsrat von Buhl winery dates back to the mid-nineteenth century and owns 56 hectares of organic vineyards on sandstone in the Mittelhaardt sub-region of the Pfalz. Known for its Grosses Gewächs Rieslings, Von Buhl farms organically with winemaking led by Italian Simone Figerio who has experience making wine all over the world, including in Australia, Canada, South Africa and even England.
Laithwaites buyer Becca Reeves first tasted this wine in one of the winery’s local restaurants. “Of course I loved the label - it’s super striking with its skull, which also carefully communicates the wine’s flavour profile with pineapple, lemon and grapefruit built into the design,” she says. “If you love dry wines like Sauvignon Blanc then you’ll love this which, at a cool 12% ABV, is a very modern take on German Riesling.”
2024 was a bit of a challenging year in Germany, but Simone says the grapes were characterized by high extract levels, fine aromatics and fresh acidity. “This is how the Mittelhaardt tastes and smells,” he says. “Stone fruit and citrus with a lively freshness and depth.”
Becca adds: “This wine is linear and precise, and can be your very own toast to Halloween while the family is out trick or treating.”
Von Buhl Bone Dry Riesling 2024 is available from Laithwaites.co.uk at RRP £16.99

The Laithwaites wine team tastes over 40,000 wines a year before selecting the best buys for customers. Laithwaites offers 1,200 wines from 26 countries, ranging in price from £4.99 up to £1,200 a bottle and all covered by a 100% guarantee of enjoyment.
They also offer an extensive gifts range, complimentary Wine Advisor service, and host a range of events. Laithwaites Wine is the only UK wine merchant to win the Service Mark accreditation from the Institute of Customer Service and has twice been awarded Online Retailer of the Year.
Laithwaites is delighted to be one of ten leading retailers which have signed up to the 'SWR Bottle Weight Accord'. Founded in 2021, the Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) is the only global independent multistakeholder roundtable in wine.
