Fully immerse yourself in the beautiful Tuscan landscape … rolling hills of vineyards, cypress trees and the silvery-green of olive groves. Star of the ‘show’ will be Tuscany’s great grape – Sangiovese. But don’t expect any two wines to be the same – this chameleon variety is a shape-shifter of taste and style.
As much as the wine – and there will be a few whites and red surprises to enjoy too – we will explore the fabulous food. Tuscan cooking is seasonal, unfussy and delicious ... some of the best in the world.
We use the beautiful Renaissance city of Florence as base for our three-night stay, with free time to explore the city’s wonderful sights. Our hotel lies close to the River Arno, and the famous Ponte Vecchio. Stroll across the picturesque bridge to the Boboli gardens, created for the powerful Medici family in 1550. Or explore some of the city's famous museums, such as the famous Uffizi Gallery, home to Botticelli’s masterpiece of The Birth of Venus.
The highlight of the trip will be a visit to Anna Rita and Paolo Masi’s beautiful family estate, Fattoria di Basciano, high in the hills of Chianti Rufina, overlooking the Argomenna Valley. There we will enjoy a visit to the vineyards, a full tasting, as well as a delicious lunch of classic Tuscan dishes, accompanied by the Masi wines.
We will return to Chianti Rufina the following day, to visit Fattoria Selvapiana - their vineyards at the foothills of the Appennines produce world-class wines. Following a visit to the cellars, and a tasting, we will enjoy their wines over lunch at the estate.
