  • Prosecco cocktail recipes to try

Add a touch of sparkle to your cocktails this summer. Our guide to Prosecco cocktails covers everything you need to know, from which Prosecco to choose for your base, food pairings, and recipes for beloved classics and innovative twists. Let’s dive in …

Prosecco: the nation's new favourite fizz

Let’s be honest … a glass of Prosecco is always a treat. This northern Italian sparkling wine has overtaken Champagne to become the UK’s favourite fizz. And while it’s a great tipple on its own, its fruity, lightly sparkling and easy-drinking style means Prosecco is the perfect base for flavourful cocktails.

Whether you’re hosting a brunch, a summer BBQ with friends, or an elegant evening gathering, Prosecco cocktails bring a touch of sophistication and refreshment to the occasion.

So, let’s uncover everything you need to know – from choosing the right Prosecco for your cocktails, classic and innovative recipes, and what foods to pair with your Prosecco cocktails.

Choosing the right Prosecco for your cocktails

Prosecco has six different levels of sweetness:

  • Brut Nature – this is the driest style of Prosecco, with a clean, crisp profile and minimal residual sugar.
  • Extra Brut – this style is slightly sweeter than Brut Nature – but is still a dry style.
  • Brut – this style has 0-12g of residual sugar. It balances dryness with sweetness, making it one of the most popular sweetness levels.
  • Extra Dry – this style has 12-17g of residual sugar. Because it’s sweeter than Brut, it’s quite appealing. This is the one of the most popular sweetness levels.
  • Dry – this style has 17-32g of residual sugar. You’ll definitely notice more sweetness, making it ideal for those who enjoy a sweeter sparkling wine.
  • Demi-Sec – this style has up to 50g residual sugar. It’s the sweetest style, ideal for those who enjoy more pronounced sugar notes in their wine. Perfect for pairing with desserts.

Brut or Extra Dry are recommended for most cocktails. This is because their crisp acidity is perfectly balanced with a subtle sweetness that pairs well with other ingredients without overpowering them.

How to serve Prosecco cocktails

Chill your Prosecco right down before adding to your cocktails, then serve in elegant glassware such as flutes or coupe glasses.

What food to pair with your Prosecco cocktails

Because Prosecco cocktails are incredibly versatile, they pair well with a range of foods.

Enjoying your Prosecco cocktail with brunch? I’d recommend ordering something savoury … like salmon and avocado or any egg-based breakfast. If you’re hosting an afternoon gathering, Prosecco cocktails would work perfectly with cheese and charcuterie boards.

But if you’re sipping at during the evening or with dinner, why not pair with seafood dishes. Or if you’re paring alongside a sweet treat, try fruit tarts or lemon sorbet.

If you're looking for more pairings or hosting ideas the you can learn more about our favourite cocktails for summer, including the delightful deviation of a classic … the Negroni Sbagliato.
