Flavour Profile
Willem the Silent hails from the Vaucluse, a southern Rhône wine region just on the edge of Provence. Its extensive vineyards nurture an array of native grapes like Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, that make ripe, warming, fruit-laden red wines.
It may not be well known but the Vaucluse is home to such famous wine villages as Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. And it’s lucky enough to share the same climate and have similar soils too. When it comes to great-value reds to rival the famous names of the Southern Rhône, the Vaucluse is hard to beat.
That’s especially true of Willem the Silent, made by award-winning Châteauneuf-du-Pape winemaker Thierry Ferlay. Thierry has won scores of Gold medals and is the man behind bestselling Prince de Courthézon Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf. Juicy and smooth, with bramble fruit, herbs and a touch of liquorice, pair with sausage and mash or stuffed peppers.
