The Wine
This zesty, citrus white shows that Chile is a star with Sauvignon Blanc, both for quality and “fantastic value for money” (Peter Richards MW, Decanter). It's the creation of Viña Tarapacá, founded in 1874 in the Maipo Valley by Don Francisco de Rojas y Salamanca. He imported noble grape varieties from France and created an impressive estate with cool, high-altitude vineyards. Today they have all the latest gear in their pristine, modern winery. Winemaker is Sebastián Ruiz Flaño, who has sourced grapes from vines close to the river in Maipo, Maule and Curicó. There a cooling wind from the Andes ensures slow ripening and crisp, aromatic grapes. Bright and citrusy, this white is the perfect aperitif and partner to seafood or salads.
