The Wine
The award-winning Pfaffl winery is run by siblings Roman Josef Pfaffl and his sister Heidi. Roman reigns in the vineyard and cellar, while Heidi runs the business side. Their 110 hectares of vines are their pride and joy – dotted around the village of Stetten in Weinviertel and with parcels close to Vienna, all tended very sustainably. With a wide range of terroir, they can grow a number of different varieties, but their most prized is Grüner Veltliner, the hero grape of Austria. Fruit for HUND come from the lower slopes of the Bisamberg mountains, with its special quartz-dotted soils. This fine white has a lovely fruitiness, with classic pepper and mineral notes and creamy weight. A superb Grüner to savour on its own or with white meats.
