The Story Behind the Bottle
Nicolas Potel is a leading grower-négociant of Burgundy. He learned much from his renowned father Gérard, the figure behind Burgundy's renowned Pousse d'Or, then studied, before gaining experience in Australia and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build up from nothing. He founded Roche de Bellene in 2008, working closely with growers to gain access to parcels of the finest grapes, while gradually gaining a few vineyards. Hence his dual role as grower and négociant. He uses old-vine grapes, so his wines are intense and expressive – “in the class of the very best that Burgundy can produce,” wrote Jasper Morris MW. A Saint-Aubin with an excellent balance of roundness and freshness.
