The Wine
Abbesse is our No.1 Loire Sauvignon Blanc from the talented Bougrier family estate. It enjoyed two decades of popularity for its bright, vibrant character, so head of the family Noël wanted to mark the anniversary. That was with the 2020 – a fabulous tiny-release edition, really dialling up the Sauvignon elegance and finesse. It was so good, we insisted he did the same in 2021. The premium grapes come from a small, two-hectare vineyard at the heart of the family's Touraine estate, while its name pays tribute to the last Abbesse of Fontevraud Abbey nearby. Filled with secrets, legend has it that she escaped the Abbey through a hidden door in the attic which was once Fontevraud’s prison! Enjoy its citrusy charm with seafood or goat's cheese.
