It’s from Rutherford, one of the finest wine-growing areas in Napa Valley. Known for world-class Cabernet, the region soaks up the warm Californian sunshine during the day, ripening the grapes, until the fog rolls in come evening. It lengthens the growing season and results in intense, deeply flavoured, bold, well-structured reds. Illustrious bears all the hallmarks of a great Napa Valley wine – dense blackcurrant, mint, and chocolate notes from 20 months in French oak, all underpinned by a mineral earthiness, known as 'Rutherford dust'.
