As all whisky lovers know, ‘uisge beatha’ – Scots Gaelic for ‘water of life’ – gets much of its flavour and colour from the barrel in which it spends its formative years. And Glenmorangie’s extra matured range showcases the distillery’s pioneering achievements in cask finishing. Quinta Ruban is exceptionally smooth and flavoursome, having spent its first decade languishing in new American oak casks. These new casks give the malt a foundation of smooth vanilla richness. It then enjoys a further two years in barrels that were formerly used to age fine ruby port in some of Portugal’s finest quintas. With intense colour, complex aromas and exceptional depth of flavour, Quinta Ruban is a delight – add a few drops of water to unfurl it further.
