The Wine
Established in 1859 and today run by the fifth generation, Domaine Jean Chartron owns 13 hectares of vineyards. These lie in Puligny Montrachet and the neighbouring villages, including a number of Premiers and Grands Crus vineyards such as Chevalier Montrachet. However, these vineyards can't contain his curiousity, so he often searches out vineyards further afield. His delicious Santenay Blanc Les Pierres Sèches is rich, ripe and well balanced. Fermented in a third new oak and barrel aged with batonnage, the wine is layered and complex with ripe stone fruits, lemon and cinnamon spice. Its underlying streak of minerality means it has a lovely freshness too, and will age very well. A wine well worth seeking out to enjoy now or cellar.
