The Wine
Vougeraie is the superb Boisset family estate. In 1961 Jean-Claude Boisset purchased Gevrey’s Les Evocelles, and since then they’ve added vineyards across 36 appellations, covering 42 hectares of premium sites. They brought the vineyards together in one estate in 1999 to make Domaine de la Vougeraie. Large for Burgundy, but there’s no compromise in quality. Every plot is managed organically and biodynamically for a purer expression of the vines’ terroir. This fine village Volnay takes grapes from two neighbouring south-east-facing climats, close to Taille Pieds and Cailleret. A third whole-bunch pressed, wild yeast fermented and aged 15 months in part new oak, this is a finely honed Volnay. For now, open early and decant. Or cellar.
