Nuits-Saint-Georges AOC

Nicolas Potel is a hugely talented winemaker, possibly even greater than his renowned father, Gérard, before him. From “one of the top vintages in Burgundy for many years” (Potel), this is a "dense, suave and opulent" (Burghound) Nuits-Saint-Georges.

The Wine
Domaine de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel, who learned at an early age from his renowned father, Gérard. He went on to gain experience in Oz and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build up from nothing. Today, his wines are described as "absolutely delicious" (Neal Martin), “in the class of the very best that Burgundy can produce,”(Jasper Morris MW). At Bellene, Nicolas is both talented winemaker using estate fruit, and "haute-couture négociant", sourcing top-quality, old-vine grapes from individual growers. This is a domaine wine, using grapes from four plots on the Vosne-Romanée side of NSG, beautifully ripened, carefully fermented and aged in barrel. Needs time.
