The Wine
Peter Sisseck is a legendary name in winemaking, renowned for raising the profile of Spain’s Ribera del Duero region with his stellar Pingus wine. There he farmed organically and biodynamically to promote strong, healthy vines and excellent quality fruit. He continued with this vineyard philosophy when he bought Château Rocheyron in 2011, just 3.6km away from the very heart of Saint-Emilion and its cobbled streets. The property is small, with just 7.4 hectares of vineyard, the younger Merlot vines planted on the hard limestone plateau and the 80+ year old Merlot and Cabernet Franc on clay limestone. Traditionally fermented, the wine is a delicately nuanced claret, with complexity and structure from 18 months ageing in 30% new oak barrels.
