Flavour Profile
Henri Martin, mayor of Saint-Julien, created Château Gloria in the late 1940s from vineyards he bought from the prestigious châteaux of Léoville Poyferré, Gruaud Larose and Saint-Pierre. As a consequence, Château Gloria was never part of Bordeaux's original 1855 classification, but every vintage they surpass many of the classified growths.
After Henri's death in 1991, his son-in-law Jean-Louis Triaud continued the family tradition of exemplary winemaking, receiving high marks each vintage from critics worldwide.
James Suckling described it as being " Fleshy, al-dente and almost full-bodied, with fresh, fine-grained tannins and a long, juicy and expressive finish with lots of blue fruit”. Half Cabernet Sauvignon with over a third Merlot, this claret is delicious now, but will mature gracefully too. Open early and decant, or cellar a while.
