Château Giscours 2020
Margaux AOC 3ème Grand Cru Classé
Loading...
Described as “floral, graceful and fragrant” by Andrew Jefford (The New France), the wines of Margaux are the essence of fine Bordeaux. Giscours is among the best. From a "super-quality" (James Suckling) vintage, this is an excellent 96pt claret.

The Wine
Château Giscours lies in the most southerly part of Margaux. Records from 1330 show there was once a fortified castle on the site of today’s imposing château, while the current building dates back to 1847, surrounded by parkland dotted with ancient trees. The estate’s vines are planted on classic croupes de graves (gravel seams), which provide the drainage to ensure really rich, concentrated fruit. This is flattered by 18 to 24 months ageing in fine oak barrels, which lends subtle cedar and vanilla notes. Two-thirds of the barrels are renewed each year, a sure sign of the quality of the fruit, which in the superbly ripe, well-structured 2020 vintage was very good. One of the best releases from Giscours in the last 50 years. Best cellared.
