The Story Behind the Bottle
Now in the hands of four like-minded quality enthusiasts, Château Gigault produces two wines: a traditionally made claret and this, their no-expense-spared flagship, Cuvée Viva. Among the new owners is renowned consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, who also lends his expertise to some of Saint-Émilion’s most prestigious estates (La Mondotte, Canon La Gaffelière and Pavie Macquin). Critic Robert Parker has long championed this wine, calling it “consistently one of my picks as an overachieving wine”, while James Suckling describes it as “very appealing” and “very satisfying”. Made from hand-picked, low-yield Merlot and aged in new oak, it’s a voluptuous, modern-style claret with intense fruit and a beautifully soft, mellow character.
