Château de Ferrand 2016
Excellent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé boasting ripe plum and black berry flavours with cedar oak spice. It’s from the top 2016 vintage and was even awarded 95 points by James Suckling. Shows at its best after time in a decanter. Complex and fine.

The Wine
Founded in 1702 by Elie de Bétoulaud, Château de Ferrand remained in the family until 1978 when the Bich clan acquired it. Since then, the new owners have strived to maximise the wine quality through renovation and modernisation. Their work paid off in 2012 when the château was promoted to Grand Cru Classé status. Its vineyard lies 100 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest vineyards in the Saint-Émilion appellation. This means the grapes benefit from great ventilation, and well-drained sloping soils. This fine claret is dominated with soft, plummy Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Parcels of grapes are vinified plot-by-plot and aged in fine-grained French oak barrels for complexity. A class red.

This has very attractive aromas of bright red fruit with a neat array of wild herbs and flowers, too
