Flavour Profile
Elegant, fruity and aromatic, Alan Cooke Swartland Grenache comes from a small winery on the slopes of the Kasteelberg Mountain, nestled between the giants of Swartland winemaking.
A chance discovery in 2010 started Alan Cooke’s winemaking journey in Swartland. While scrolling through Gumtree, he happened upon a small piece of land on the slopes of the Kasteelberg, tucked between some of the region’s top producers and benefitting from the same climate and soil. Now, as well as producing his own wines, Alan has created a space for up-and-coming winemakers in the region to experiment and make their own wines.
This fruity red is made mostly with Grenache, the rest made up of a field blend from the same vineyard, creating bright, aromatic aromas of hedgerow berries and damsons. Fresh red berry flavours, light spice and a lingering minerality make this wine a wonderful partner for grilled lamb, steaks or venison stew.
