Full of deep, dark, seductive blackberry fruit and chocolatey spice, Vale Perdido is a Gold medal winner. Typical of Portugal, it's top value too and from a fourth generation estate that, just in the last five years, has won over 1000 medals.

The lost valley – Vale Perdido – is part of José Oliveira da Silva’s family estate in a region north of Lisbon. Fourth generation, it has won over 1000 awards in the last five years, 500 of those being Gold. This is the first wine we bought from José and that was in 2003, since when it's bagged six Golds, including one for this 2016 vintage. Winemaker at the cellar today is bull wrestling Diogo Sepúlveda, who’s worked in Pomerol, Napa Valley and at 5-Star rated Turkey Flat in the Barossa. Here he brings together four unique, characterful local varieties: leafy raspberry Castelão, cherry rich Camarate, dark Touriga Nacional and bright Trincadeira, with a splash of Syrah too. It's soft enough to enjoy solo; ideal with pork and bean casserole.
