Domaine de la Margot 2020

Régnié AOP

Beaujolais' newest cru is Régnié and remains the least well known. Not for long with bright, summer-fruit-charm reds like this. It's from a small family estate, named after its chattering magpies. Juicy red berry aromas, with silky fruit freshness.

Ten to 20 years back, poor Beaujolais couldn't get a look in – wine drinkers wanted bold New World wines. Now thirsty wine lovers can't get enough of Beaujolais's fruity charms. Nor can top sommeliers, who love to promote them in their restaurants. This is a fine, fresh red, with lovely intensity, thanks to the superb quality of the vintage. It's from a small domaine situated in Régnié, the latest to join the region's superior Cru set. On the pink granite soils of the appellation, Gamay performs at its best, producing concentrated berry flavours, with mineral zip. The wine is made for the family at Les Vignerons de Bel Air, top winemakers since 1929. With its fruit and freshness, it's a great red with seared tuna and tomato salad or pilaf.

"Régnié offers truly delightful reds – lots of supple, silky red fruits. Always brings a smile" Sarah Everden
