Critic Andrew Jefford echoes Dunnock – René Rostaing “has made himself into one of the very finest producers of Côte-Rôtie”, and Parker also has high praise for the Rostaing wines. Although Les Lézardes isn't claiming to be Côte-Rôtie, it certainly is a brilliant value taste of this domaine's style. René Rostaing founded the property in 1971 with less than half a hectare, split between the Côte Blonde and La Landonne. He inherited another 5.5 hectares and regularly is cited as the best producer of the vintage. His son Pierre has now joined him as winemaker. They eschew the riper, more populist style of the region, making true vins de garde. Even this IGP needs time. Decant well in advance or cellar. Exquisite with lamb or beef casserole.
