Burgundy's reds in 2017 have been described as “very good, often excellent, and from time to time, bloody awesome” (Vinous). From a superb family domaine, this is an elegantly nuanced and seductive Gevrey with lovely purity of fruit and richness.

The Wine
Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the star appellations of the Côte de Nuits, highly regarded for its intense, potent Pinot Noir. For many it's the definition of classic red Burgundy. At the family estate, Bernard Bouvier makes wines from six different villages. For each, his philosophy is to create “a mouthfeel that evokes silk, taffeta and velvet”. The wines must also express the individual character of their terroir – they must be “vibrant, living wines, with soul”. So he harvests every grape at tip-top ripeness, treats the wine with the utmost care in the winery, and uses specially selected French oak barrels for maturation. This Gevrey has superb richness, length and complexity, showing off its unique terroir. Ideal with simple meat dishes.
