Domaine du Tunnel Cornas 2020

Cornas AOC

From a small appellation in the northern Rhône and one of its finest domaines comes this superb Cornas. Blending the Syrah grapes from 15 parcels of mature vines, the wine weaves notes of pepper and liquorice with smoky black fruit and spice.

Since Stéphane Robert and his wife Sandrine founded their domaine in 1994 they have attracted enormous praise from the likes of Decanter, Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. The 11-hectare property stretches across three prestigious appellations – Cornas, Saint-Joseph and Saint-Péray – and their wines have become reference points for all three. Stunning complexity, richness, intensity and poise are apparent in every wine. Perhaps that should be of no surprise, when Stéphane was an apprentice at Domaine Jean-Louis Grippat – the beacon of Saint-Joseph. He obviously has very natural talent. Blending cuvées from 15 parcels of old vines grapes from this tiny region and ageing in barrel, this is long, complex red, worth cellaring. Ideal with lamb.
