Domaine du Clos Frantin Échezeaux Grand Cru 2017
Echézeaux Grand Cru AOC

A Grand Cru Vosne Romanée and an appellation in its own right, this is Burgundy at its finest. It’s also from a terrific producer and a “lovely vintage north to south” (Julia Harding MW). Glorious, pure fruit, aged in 40% new oak, it needs time.

The Wine
Domaine du Clos Frantin is part of the Albert Bichot stable, “one of those Beaune-based producers that can really surprise” (Neal Martin). The wines are characterised by their elegance and nuance. The flavour, the purity, the complexity are all there, effortlessly; the very essence of what top Burgundy should be about. This wine is not only from one of the finest Grands Crus, it’s from a vintage praised across the board: “The 2017 reds are very good, often excellent, and from time to time, bloody awesome” (Wine Advocate), “wines singing their hearts out” (jancisrobinson.com). Seductive, fruit-driven and already charming, it’s best to resist drinking immediately. Tuck the bottles away in a cool dark place and see how the complexity develops.

Dark, dense black fruit on the palate, very fine tannins that require no ageing to weather them
