Domaine Henri Gouges is one of Burgundy’s finest estates, particularly renowned in Nuits St Georges – “the doyen of Nuits Saint Georges with magnificent wines” says Clive Coates MW. The Gouges family have owned the domaine since 1920 (and were growers for 400 years before that). Founder Henri was something of a revolutionary, a key player in the battle against fraud and the first Burgundian to bottle his own wine, to guarantee provenance and quality. Great grandson Grégory is now taking on the winemaking, with the same drive and passion as his legendary great grandfather. While Henri was renowned for long-lived wines, Gregory aims for a more approachable style. This is a delight now. Don’t overchill to enjoy all its pretty fruit complexity.
