Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru AOC

Sandwiched between three Grands Crus, it’s perhaps no surprise that Combottes is the pick of this century old family domaine’s Premiers Crus. Nuanced red berry fruit with notes of sweet spice and leafy undergrowth, this is a wine of delicious length.

The Wine
The 2017 vintage produced wines “so delicious and refreshing that I predict you will be seduced” (Alan Meadows, Burghound), "a modern classic" (Vinous). This 1er Cru is from the Ligniers, based in Burgundy’s Morey Saint Denis since the mid 19th century. Since 2002 this 15 hectare domaine has been run by Georges Lignier’s nephew, Benoît Stehly and the wines get "better and better" (JancisRobinson.com). Burgundy expert Serena Sutcliffe MW wrote, “this domaine very often produces the essence of the (Pinot Noir) grape" – that’s to say, wines of remarkable purity. Aux Combottes is Gevrey’s most southerly 1er Cru, surrounded by Grands Crus, and is very highly regarded. Open early and decant. Serve with boeuf bourguignon, duck or wild mushrooms.
