So-called entry level Burgundy from this top Nuits Saint Georges domaine, “a producer I greatly admire” (Vinous). 2017 was a fabulous vintage too, universally admired, so you know this will be special. To enjoy this fine red now, best decant first.

Domaine Henri Gouges is one of the most famous names in Burgundy – “the doyen of Nuits Saint Georges with magnificent wines” says Clive Coates MW. The family have been owners of this domaine since 1920, and founder Henri Gouges was something of a Burgundian revolutionary. He was a key player in the battle against fraud and was the first Burgundian to bottle his own wine, to guarantee provenance and quality. Grégory and Antoine now run the property with the same drive and passion as their legendary great-grandfather. While Henri was renowned for his long-lived wines, Gregory, using purely organic methods, aims for a more approachable style, certainly true in this pretty Bourgogne. A seductive red, ideal with duck or wild mushroom fricassee.
