The Wine
Domaine Henri Gouges is one of Nuits Saint Georges’ most famous estates and one of the appellation’s finest – “the doyen of Nuits Saint Georges with magnificent wines” says Clive Coates MW. The family have been owners of the domaine since 1920. Founder Henri Gouges was something of a Burgundian revolutionary, a key player in the battle against fraud and the first Burgundian to bottle his own wine, to guarantee provenance and quality. Domaine bottling is now practised throughout the region. Gregory and Antoine run the property today with the same drive and passion as their great-grandfather. While Henri was renowned for his long-lived Nuits Saint Georges, Gregory aims for a more approachable style. That said, this red will age magnificently.
