Le Prestige du Rhône 2017

Côtes du Rhône AOC

An outstanding vintage and the talents of Rhône winemaker Laurent Gauzi. That is the delectable package you have in this supple, ripe, warming red which uses largely Châteauneuf du Pape’s adored Grenache with a smaller portion of cool herbal Syrah.

Le Prestige is a warmly fruity, ripe red from Laurent Gauzi. Born and raised in this part of France, he has never lost his passion for its wines. In frost-struck 2017, the quality of the Rhône’s Grenache was very good – there just wasn’t much of it to go round. For this wine Laurent selected grapes that were particularly gorgeous and ripe, thanks to large galet stones littering the ground. Just as they do in Châteauneuf, the stones absorb heat during the day and emit it at night, ripening grapes even more. He added a portion of herbal Syrah from cooler vineyards to gain a balance of luscious, ripe fruit and structure. A charming, supple red that can be enjoyed young or left to mellow. Great with grilled meats, sausages or herby casseroles.

"A lovely and affordable example of good Rhône. Getting through this case far too quickly!" Online Review
