  • Best Cabernet Sauvignons of 2026

Discover the must-taste Cabernet Sauvignons of 2026. Delicious finds from Bordeaux, Australia, South Africa, California and more – a great find at every price point.

Why Cabernet Sauvignon?

The real question is, why NOT Cabernet Sauvignon? Of course, it’s the star grape in many of the world’s loftiest and priciest reds. Think Lafite Rothschild of Bordeaux and Screaming Eagle of California’s Napa Valley. Those kinds of bottles can command many hundreds, even thousands of pounds.

But Cabernet Sauvignon is grown and enjoyed all over the world. It makes reds in many styles, at many price points. From the dark-fruited and tobacco-scented mature reds of Bordeaux to the wonderfully herbal, eucalyptus-infused Cabernets of Coonawarra … not to mention it crops up in blends basically everywhere.

So how do you choose the right Cabernet Sauvignon for your tastes and budget? And what should you look for in a good one? Read on to find the answers, and our top recommendations from under £15 up to £32 … and one best-of-the-best pick.

If you're not that familiar with Cabernet Sauvignon, check out our handy grape guide all about why ‘the king of reds’ might just be the one for you.

What to look for in a great Cabernet Sauvignon wine?

Despite being one of the world’s most versatile grapes, Cabernet is so characterful that you can still identify it by looking for a few key characteristics.

For starters, it’s often very dark in the glass. A deep purple that you can’t see through. Flavour-wise, look for blackcurrant first – that’s Cabernet’s calling card. That’s often joined by black cherry, plum and cassis, with hints of cedar, tobacco and graphite adding extra layers of complexity. In cooler climates, expect fresher acidity, herbal notes, sometimes with a leafy edge, and firmer tannins (want to know more about tannins? Give this a look). Warmer regions tend to deliver riper, juicier fruit and a fuller, more generous feel.

Then there’s the style. Think classic Bordeaux for elegance, savoury complexity and beautifully balanced fruit, often blended with Merlot. California brings richer, more powerful reds with ripe black fruit and a lick of oak. South Africa offers a style that’s between the two – elegance paired with ripeness. The best bit? There’s a Cabernet for every palate and pocket.

The best Cabernet Sauvignons under £15

Hacienda de Lluna, Spain
Cabernet Sauvignon loves the sunshine. And in the vineyards around Valencia, on Spain’s eastern coast, it really thrives … producing ripe and bright reds like Hacienda de Lluna. Grapes for this red come from 600 metres above sea level, where cooling temperatures make for fresher and livelier flavours. Silky, easy-going, with waves of juicy blackberry.

Angove Nanya Estate, Australia
We’re not sure how this Australian Cabernet Sauvignon is so affordable. When we first started buying from Australia, there were dozens upon dozens of family-run estates. That’s not really the case today … but Angove is the exception. Their passion has earned them 5 Red Stars (“the best of the best”) by top Aussie wine writer James Halliday for 12 years in a row. And it’s wines like this Cabernet that show why – brimming with ripe plum and vibrant blackberry, with layers of gentle oak spice.

Don Cayetano, Chile
This fruity little number has been a staple in customers’ wine racks for decades. Dependable, effortlessly drinkable … but it has some serious quality credentials up its sleeve. You see, the Luis Felipe Edwards estate has been named ‘Chilean Winery of the Year’ four times. This ripe and juicy red shows there’s incredible Cabernet value to be found in Chile.

The best Cabernet Sauvignons under £20

The Waxed Bat Reserve, Argentina
Opi Sadler is the legend who helped kickstart the UK’s love affair with bold Argentinian reds. Indeed, his signature red is still our No.1 Malbec. But Opi is also a grape-blending wizard and has discovered that adding a splash of Malbec to Cabernet works wonders. The Waxed Bat Reserve is the delicious result, the step-up luxury edition of one of our all-time top-selling wines – made with finest parcels from high-altitude vineyards in a quality enclave of Argentina’s premium Mendoza region.

Catbird Seat, Australia
Coonawarra Cabernet is one of the world’s most distinctive red styles. These wines come from a small cigar-shaped strip of land in South Australia, which is home to the famous ‘terra rossa’ soils. Cabernets from vines grown here develop unmistakable mint and eucalyptus aromas – a real treat for the senses! And Catbird Seat is a fabulous example. It has those classic minty notes on the nose, with oodles of juicy blackberry jam and raspberry richness on every sip.

The best Cabernet Sauvignons under £30

Boschendal Nicolas Stellenbosch, South Africa
South Africa has made a name for itself when it comes to plush, rich, complex Cabernet-based reds – often made in the Bordeaux style. And the 340-year-old Boschendal estate is a true pioneer of South African wine. For this wine, they sought out the finest grapes from the renowned Stellenbosch region – Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot and Malbec, barrel matured for 14 months. Gorgeously rich, ripe and velvety, this grand, weighty red is a must for hearty dishes.

Ixsir Altitudes Rouge, Lebanon
Yes, Lebanon! Tim Atkin MW calls Lebanon “the wine world’s best-kept secret”. And with gems like this on offer, it’s hard to disagree. The acclaimed Ixsir winery is located in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley – a paradise for vines thanks to abundant sunshine, steep slopes and high altitude. For this red, black-fruited Cabernet meets spicy Syrah, juicy Tempranillo and dark Caladoc – all from Ixsir’s best vineyards, up to 1,800m above sea level.

The best Cabernet Sauvignons under £40

L'Épiphanie de Pauillac, Bordeaux
Sorry to make you wait this long for a Bordeaux, but we had to make sure it was a good one! Pauillac is one of THE superstar names of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, and home to many of the world’s most expensive and sought-after reds. And L'Épiphanie de Pauillac is a friends-only secret release from one of the appellation’s three prized First Growths. It’s not the estate’s Grand Vin, but it’s crafted with the same winemaking excellence as the flagship release, which costs sixteen times as much.

Vallino Organic, Italy
In the 1960s, a group of Tuscan winemakers, frustrated by restrictive Italian wine laws, decided to go against the grain and use both local and international grapes – like Cabernet Sauvignon – in their wines. Super Tuscans won over the lawmakers and are now recognised as some of Tuscany’s top red wines. Vallino is a superb example. A blend of international superstar Cabernet Sauvignon and local hero Sangiovese. The result is this rich, opulent red.

The best ‘money is no object’ Cabernet Sauvignon

Château Lafite Rothschild, Bordeaux
Arguably the most famous of all châteaux, it’s the centrepiece of any Bordeaux lover’s collection. This is a Pauillac Premier Grand Cru Classé, the best of the best, a masterpiece red treated to the most meticulous winemaking – and built for serious ageing. The absolute pinnacle of Cabernet Sauvignon, as proven by this wine’s numerous 99-100 point scores.
