The Wine
The Max Ferdinand Richter estate has passed from father to son for 300 years and is now in the hands of the 9th generation, Dr Dirk Richter, with assistance from his son, Constantin. They’re best known for their world-class Rieslings from some of Mosel’s most prestigious vineyards, some of which are over 130 years old. Indeed, 95% of their vines are devoted to this grape, while 5% is planted to Weiss Burgunder. Better known as Pinot Blanc, it thrives on the ancient gravel, pebble-strewn soils of this plot, producing lovely ripeness, while retaining Mosel’s classic minerality. Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in large oak fuder to lend roundness, it’s a delicious, well-balanced white. Great solo or with Asian dishes, risotto or fish.
