The Wine
Formerly a region focused on apple growing, Elgin has now gained a reputation for producing South African fine wine. Close to the coast, it has a cool climate, similar to that of Burgundy, and particularly excels with Pinot Noir. The Fledge & Company handcraft their wines by working with some of the finest growers in the Cape. They are proudly “terroir by truck”, travelling to 50 different vineyards around the Cape in search of the best grapes from each microclimate. For this delicious red, they have taken grapes from two unique vineyard sites in Elgin – both planted with Burgundian clones of Pinot Noir. Ripe cherry, dried cranberry and plush damson lead the flavours, with wisps of oak spice. Ideal with white meats, game or mushrooms.
