The Wine
If you've visited Greece and enjoyed the wine, you're very likely to have sampled a bottle from Boutari, the dynasty that brought the country's wine industry back to life. The family started the business in 1879. A century later, 4th-generation Yiannis, started on a quest to promote a more regionalised, boutique-style of production, planting a high-altitude vineyard too. Eventually he broke away from the family, becoming one of the leading figures of modern Greek wines. His winery is named Kir-Yianni and his son Stellios took charge in 1999, meticulously combining innovation with respect for tradition. The outcome is exceptional wines like this fine Assyrtiko. Crisp and stony fresh, it's great solo, with seafood or, of course, Greek salad.
