Gloriously rich, complex whisky from Glenfiddich – one of Scotland’s oldest family owned distilleries. The third in their Experimental Series, the malt was aged in casks formerly used for Canada’s ice wine. Turkish delight, lychee notes – intriguing.
"Only the rarer whiskies, those aged for 21 years, could cope with the extra ice wine intensity"
Brian Kinsman Glenfiddich Malt Master
As every whisky aficionado will know, whisky gains much of its flavour, character and colour from the cask in which it’s aged. So to make Winter Storm – the third instalment of the Glenfiddich Experimental Series – Glenfiddich distillery’s Malt Master Brian Kinsman finished the whisky in casks formerly used to age Canadian ice wine. As you’re probably aware, ice wine is intensely sweet and concentrated because it’s made from grapes that are frozen on the vine. These ice wine casks add amazing sweet tropical notes to this luscious limited edition. Brian knew only older whiskies would have the character to avoid being swamped by the sweetness. Instead, a uniquely fresh lychee note has been added. Try serving with a frozen grape in the glass.
