Penumbra 2015
Following the success of Australia’s terrific Durifs (our bestselling Black Stump for one), we decided to look ‘across the pond’ where Durif also thrives in a sunshine climate. We returned with the rich, dark, weighty Penumbra – a big mouthful.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
From Mendocino in the north to Santa Barbara in the south, California makes rich, fruit packed wines – and here’s an opportunity to try a pitch black gem that is distinctly Californian. Penumbra blends premium Durif and Petit Verdot grapes from Napa, Sonoma, Lake County and Lodi. As fans of the Aussie Black Stump will know, Durif is “the grape that takes no prisoners” (Tim Atkin MW). Renowned for deep colour and powerful berry flavours, this variety originated in France, but much prefers the warmth of Oz and California. Bordeaux’s Petit Verdot adds spice and structure, while ageing in American oak imparts a wrap of bold, warm vanilla and coconut. Enjoy with weighty, flavoursome dishes. We suggest a steak, spicy chilli or a hearty stew.
