New Zealand Sauvignon that nearly every year clocks up Golds, this wine combines finesse with exuberant passion fruit ripeness and brilliant lemon minerality. It's from kiwi 'royalty' Hunter’s, one of the first on the world stage, and an ace vintage.

The Wine
Mention Sauvignon Blanc to any wine lover and Marlborough springs uppermost. Yet 40 years ago this Kiwi region was known only for barley and sheep. Marlborough's success story is one of the most remarkable in modern wine, and one in which Hunter’s can claim to have played a major part. In 1986, they visited our London Wine Show, won all the Golds and made headlines. Today the estate is run by Jane Hunter, herself a trained viticulturist. She has a string of accolades for her work, including an OBE and Companion of the NZ Order of Merit for viticulture. Winemaker today is Jane’s nephew James Macdonald. From an exceptional vintage, the wine is brimful of passion fruit, crisp apple and citrus. Delicious on its own, with seafood or spicy Thai.

Probably the best Sauvignon Blanc I’ve drank. Absolutely delicious
