Croix de Beaucaillou 2019
Saint-Julien AOC

Ducru Beaucaillou is a very fine 2ème Cru Classé estate, producing their Grand Vin, as well as the earlier drinking La Croix. Its Cabernet-focused grapes are from dedicated parcels and make a beautifully balanced claret, delicious now and to cellar.

The Wine
Wine Advocate describes the fine Ducru Beaucaillou estate: "With its optimally situated gravel soils on the bank of the Gironde around its grand 19th-century château, Ducru-Beaucaillou can boast one of the finest terroirs of the entire Médoc". It goes on to introduce this wine: "Rich aromas of cassis, licorice, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and creamy new oak introduce Bruno Borie's 2019 La Croix de Beaucaillou." Its grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated, are all from dedicated vineyards, not necessarily the younger vines. James Suckling awarded this wine a phenomenal 96 points, calling it "fantastic", "really long and serious," "so St-Julien", like the 1995 Ducru". High praise indeed. Open early and decant or, better still, cellar.
