Woodlands’ first vineyard was established by David and Heather Watson in 1973 – one of the first five to be planted in Margaret River. The couple’s aim was to emulate the greats of Bordeaux, and if critical acclaim is anything to go by (98 points for their Cabernet 2011, the first Margaret River wine to win a Trophy, and many more since), they succeeded. In 2010 they were awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the industry. But the Watsons are not ready to relax yet. They’re now crafting the finest Chardonnay (2014 gained 95 points, 2015 92 points). Fermented in barrel using 90% wild yeasts, just like a cru Burgundy, this wine has superb complexity and finesse, with layers of ripe fruit and oak and freshness. Ideal with seafood or chicken.

"Plenty of fruit character as well as the smoked barrel and malo undertones. Full and delicious" James Suckling, 92 Pts
